UPS Module Start-Up
Whena UPS module has been shut down for any reason, use this procedure to start-upthe UPS module to pro-
videfiltered, reliable power to the critical bus. This proceduregives step-by-step instructions for controls to
operateand conditions to observe. Yourpresent situation could be initial start-up or recoveringfrom input power
failure, battery shutdown, maintenance shutdown, or an emergencyshutdown.
Performthis module start-up procedure at each module in your UPS system until all requiredmodules are on-
line.
Step 1. Before you apply power to the UPS module, determine the position of the following circuit breakersand
switches:
a. RectifierInput Breaker (RIB) -If this external circuit breaker isclosed, you already have power to the
UPScabinet and possibly power to the controls. If this breaker is closed, leaveit closed. If it is open,
leaveit open until you are ready to apply power to the UPS cabinet.
b. Input CircuitBreaker (CB1) - Verify that this breaker on the front of the UPS module cabinet
(Figure 8) is in the OFF position.
c. Module Battery Disconnect (MBD) - Verifythat this external breaker is open or tripped.
d. Module Output Circuit Breaker(CB2) - Verifythat this breaker on the front of the UPS module
cabinet (Figure 8) is in the OFF position.
e. ControlPower - This manually operated switch (Figure 8) will be in the ON position unless you are
recoveringfrom a maintenance shutdown. Ifthis switch is OFF, leave it OFF until youa re readyto
applypower to the UPS controls.
Powermust be provided to the UPS module controls so you can use the LCD displayand so the system logic can
performits control functions. Note that you can use the LCD displayto monitor UPS status, even when the UPS
moduleis not on-line. If the LCD display is operating, you alreadyhave Control Power. This will be the usual
condition, unless you are recovering from a maintenance shutdown.
Step 2. If the LCD screen is not operating, energize Control Power by operatingthe following two controls:
a. Closethe Rectifier Input Breaker (RIB), which isoutside the UPS cabinet. This will provide power to
theUPS cabinet but not to any UPS components.
b. Openthe UPS cabinet door and closethe Control Disconnect fuseholders to turn theControl Power ON.
See Figure 8. Close the UPS cabinetdoor.
Pressthe S elect pad on the UPS module toput the Master Menu on the LCD display. Move the highlightedcur-
sorto Start-Up Procedures (use the Up and Down pads). Press the Select pad to display the Start-Up Procedures
screen.Return to this screen whenever you need to see the start-up instructions.
Onthe LCD display, select System Configuration from the Master Menu. Verifythat all of the information con-
tainedin the System Configuration screen is correct. When the data is correct, press the Select pad until the dis-
playreturns to the Master Menu.
CAUTION
Ifyo uare recovering from a module shutdown for mainte nanceprocedures,
verifythat all of the UPS system doors are closed and latched, AU test
equipmentm ust be removed from the system. AU electrical connections must be
secure.
NOTE
Waittwo minutes after applyingControl Power before you operateany other UPS
modulecontrols.
