3.1.12 Battery Equalize Screen
Goto the Master Menu and move the highlighted cursor to BATTERYEQUALIZE. Press the Select pad an d
the Battery Equalize sc reen is displayed.
TheBattery Equalize screen enables the operator to adjust the battery equalizetime. It is also used to choose
betweenauto and manual battery equalize recharging modes. Note that AUTO MODE can be selected only f rom
theSystem Control Cabinet (SCC). Selections made at the SCC overrideprevious selections made at the UPS
modules.
Whenthe input utility power is interrupted, the battery supplies DC power to theUP Smodule inverters so there
isno interruption of power to the critical load. When the AC input power is restored, the battery equalize
rechargingcircuit can be activated automaticallyor manually to increase the module rectifier/chargeroutput
voltageto recharge the battery. The battery equalize circuit may also be manually activatedat any time during
normalfloat (constant) voltage operation. The equalizing time canbe adjusted from 0 to 72 hours.
Figure 45 Battery Equalize Screen
EQUALIZETIME PERIOD. This selection permitsthe operator to adjust the battery equalizetime in one hour
incrementsfrom 0 to 72. The battery equalize time must be greater than zero for the batteryto begin recharging
in both the AUTO and the MANUAL modes. This period is set by useof the Up/Down pads a nd Select pad.
Whenthe battery is at full voltage (not being recharged),t hisselection reads EQUALIZE TIME PERIOD
(hrs). When the battery is recharging, thiss electionreads EQUALIZE TIME REMAINING (hrs). After the
equalizerecharge time has expired, the indicationreturns to the preset equalize time.
STOP EQUALIZE CHARGE. This selection letsthe operator halt the equalizing charge to the batteryat any
time, whether the circuit was activated automaticallyor manually.
MANUALMODE. This mode enables the operator to manually initiate a battery equalizecharge to raise the DC
busvoltage to correct a non-uniformity in the individual cellvoltages or specific gravity readings.
AUTOMOD E (SCC only). When the battery recharge controllogic is in the AUTO MODE, the UPS module
batterychargers attempt the equalization processonly if the EQUALIZE TIME PERIOD is greater than zero,
thebattery voltage has been at or below the Battery Discharging alarm limitfor longer than 30 seconds, and the
battery breakers (MBD) a re closed.
CAUTION
Donot use the Battery Equalize mode if you have valve-regulated,sealed-cell
(maintenance-free)batteries. Refer to your battery manufacturer’s manual.
