Maintenance 109
4.3 Routine Maintenance
Youare encouraged to become thoroughly familiarwith the e quipment, but at no time s houldyou gobeyond the
specificprocedures in this manual while performing maintenanceor correcting a malfunction. If you have any
doubtas to what must be done, call Liebert Global Services at 1-800-543-2378for further instructions.
TheUPS is designed for unattended operation, but does require some common sense maintenance.
Keepgood records.
Troubleshootingis easier if you have historicalbackground.
Keep it clean.
Maintainthe UPS free of dust and any moisture.
Keep it cool.
Batterysystems must be kept in the range of 72-77°F (22-26°C) in order to meet designspecifications for
capacityand longevity.
TheUPS will reliably meet all performance specifications at temperaturesup to 104°F (40°C), and can be
slightlyaerated for operation at even highertemperatures. However, performance andlongevity will be opti-
mizedwhen the UPS is operated at the same temperature as the batteries.
Keepconnections tight.
Tightenall connections at installation and at leastannually thereafter. (See torque requirements,Ta ble 4.)

4.3.1 Record Log

Setup a maintenance log to record scheduled checks and any abnormal conditions.
Thelog should have space for all metered parameterindications including phase readings, alarm messages,UPS
modeof operation, air filter replacement date, andobservation notes. A second log should be maintained for the
batterymodule as directed by the battery manufacturer.
Aperiodic walk-through inspection of the UPS and battery rooms is advised to check forvisible and audible
indicationsof problems. Log the inspection, metered parameter indications, and any discrepancies.

4.3.2 Air Filters

Aschedule for inspection of the air filters isrequired. The period between inspections willde pendupon environ-
mentalconditions. Under normal conditions, the air filterswill require service or replacement approximately
everytwo months.
AllT-UPS models have replaceablefilter elements built into the full-widthgrille across the front of the unit. This
elementcan be changed from the front, with the UPS operating.
Series600T models rated 300 kVA and higher also have recyclablefilters built into the front of their base assem-
blies. These metal filter el ements can be removed, wash ed in water, dried and returned to service.
Abnormalor dusty conditions will require more frequent cleaninga nd replacementof air filters. Inspect installa-
tionsin new buildings more often, then extend the inspection periodas experience dictates.
CAUTION
Be certain recyclable filte r elements are dry before rei nstalling them in the U PS.
