114 Maintenance
Matching Battery Cabinets (Optional)
Althoughthe individual battery cells are sealed (valve-regulated)and require only minimal maintenance, the
BatteryCabinets should be given a periodic inspection and electricalcheck. Checks should be performed at least
annuallyto ensure years of trouble-free service.
VoltageRecords. With the Battery Cabinet DC circuitbreaker closed and the connected UPS operating, mea-
sureand record battery float voltage. With the DC circuit breaker open, measure and record the nominal (open
circuit)voltage. Both these measurements should be made acrossthe final positive and negative terminal lugs.
Comparethese values with those shown below. The recorded nominal voltage should be no less than thevalue
shown, while the recorded float voltage should be within the range shown. If a discrepancy is found, contact Lie-
bertGlobal Services.
PowerC onnections. Check for corrosion andconnection integrity. Visuallyinspect wiring for discolored or
crackedinsulation. Clean and/or retighten as required.Re ferto torque specifications in Tab le 4.
Battery Cell Terminals. Check for discoloration, corrosion, and connection integrity. Clean and tighten ifnec-
essary.Note that when installing a new battery, the initial torque value is 5 lb.-in.more than the retorque value.
Retorquevalues are:
Ifyou have a different model battery, contact LiebertGlobal Services for the required torque value.
Toaccess battery cell terminals, disconnectthe inter-tier cable and two shelf retainingscrews. Once discon-
nected, insulate (with protective boot or electricaltape) the cables to prevent accidental shorts. The battery shelf
cannow be pulled out. Tighten each terminal connection tothe retorque value. When replacing a battery, thet er-
minalconnections must be cleaned and tightened. Disconnectand insulate the cables connected to the battery.
Secureeach battery shelf with retaining screws when maintenance is complete.
Rack-Mounted Batteries
Ifthe UPS system uses a battery other than a factory-supplied MatchingBattery Cabinet, perform maintenance
onthe battery as recommended in the battery manufacturer’s maintenancemanual.
4.3.4 TorqueRequirements
Allelectrical connections must be tight. Tab le 4 provides thetorque values for the connections in the UPS.
