SCSI Personality

A storage device profile that you assign to

auser-defined host in the SVM GUI. For more information, see "To create a user defined host (UDH) and set the SCSI personality:" on page 5-9.

Secondary Path

For an active/passive device, the set of paths that are passive by default. See also Active/Passive RAID, Passive Path, and Primary Path.

SFP

Small Form-Factor Pluggable, the removable transceiver form factor used by SANbox SSP.

SNMP

Simple Network Management Protocol, the protocol used by SANbox SSP to report exception conditions to third-party network management applications.

SSH

Secure Shell, a protocol and application for communicating with a remote computer system. SSH is a more secure alternative to using telnet to communicate with SANbox SSP.

SSP

Storage Services Platform. A SAN-based system, separate from the core Fibre Channel switching infrastructure, that provides storage services across heterogeneous hosts, storage, and SAN fabrics.

Storage Pool

The StoreAge-specific term used to describe a collection of physical disks managed by the SVM appliance.

SVM

Storage Virtualization Manager. StoreAge's software for managing pools of virtualized SAN storage.

System Software Image

Updateable software component that contains the operating environment for SANbox SSP, including the StoreAge SVM Agent for SANbox SSP.

Target

See Target Device.

Target Device

A device that contains one or more target ports.

Target Port

A Fibre Channel port capable of presenting storage in the form of one or more SCSI LUNs.

Transceiver

A device that provides an interface between the SANbox SSP hardware and the external network cable. SANbox SSP uses optical SFP (Small Form-Factor Pluggable) transceivers.

Valid Boot Set

A boot set that contains a usable system image.
