Cooling Shroud

The system provides a cooling shroud that directs airflow from the cooling fans over the system processor(s) and memory module(s).

WARNING: The memory modules are hot to the touch for some time after the system has been powered down. Allow the memory modules to cool before handling them.

CAUTION: Many repairs may only be done by a certified service technician. You should only perform troubleshooting and simple repairs as authorized in your product documentation, or as directed by the online or telephone service and support team. Damage due to servicing that is not authorized by Dell is not covered by your warranty. Read and follow the safety instructions that came with the product.

CAUTION: Never operate your system with the cooling shroud removed. Overheating of the system can develop quickly resulting in a shutdown of the system and the loss of data.

Removing the Cooling Shroud

1Turn off the system, including any attached peripherals, and disconnect the system from the electrical outlet.

2Open the system. See "Opening the System."

3Use the lift handles on the cooling shroud to lift the shroud out of the system. See Figure 3-13.
