Installing a Flash-ROM Upgrade With NetWare

You can upgrade the firmware on the 1765 LAN card by installing a flash-ROM upgrade. Unlike other read-only memory, flash-ROM is rewritable. This section describes how to prepare for and install a flash-ROM upgrade using NetWare.

Preparing to Install

You can not install a flash-ROM upgrade across LocalTalk. Remove any LocalTalk connections before performing a flash-ROM upgrade.

WARNING! During the flash-ROM upgrade LAN card settings restore to factory default values. Any changes you have made will be lost. Use NEC 1765 software to reconfigure the Silentwriter. Be sure to print a configuration page before installing the flash-ROM upgrade so you will know what values have been changed. To upgrade without restoring parameters without factory defaults, use FWTOOL to perform firmware upgrades. See “Installing a Flash-ROM Upgrade With FWTOOL” on page B-5.
