Installing a Flash-ROM Upgrade With ftp
You can upgrade the firmware on the 1765 LAN card by
installing a flash-ROM upgrade. Unlike other read-only
memory, flash-ROM is rewritable. This section describes
how to prepare for and install a flash-ROM upgrade
using ftp.
Preparing to Install
Before you install a flash-ROM upgrade, you need the

You need a copy of ftp, the file transfer protocol
software. Ftp is included with Windows for
Workgroups, Windows 95, and Windows NT.
You need to know the LAN card’s IP addr ess, which
is printed on the configuration page. See “Print a
Configuration Page” on page2-13.
You can not install a flash-ROM upgrade across
LocalTalk. Remove any LocalTalk connections
before performing a flash-ROM upgrade.
WARNING! During the flash-ROM upgrade LAN
card settings restore to factory default values. Any
changes you have made will be lost. Use NEC 1765
software to reconfigure the Silentwriter. Be sure to print a
configuration page before installing the flash-ROM
upgrade so you will know what values have been
changed. To upgrade without restoring parameters to
