Making Calls
Youri315 pho ne makes two types of calls: digit al
cellularphone calls and DirectConnect calls. With
Direct Connect calls, you use y our phone as a
long-range,digitalwalkie-talkie.

Phone Calls

Direct Connect®Calls

Nextel offers the followi ng Direct Connect serv ices:
DirectConnect — allowswalkie-talkie calling
withinyour local coveragearea.
NationwideDirect Connect — allows
walkie-talkiecallingtoNextelusersfrom
anywhere on the Nextel Nation al Network (U.S.)
toanywhere on the National Network.
International Direct Connect — all ows
walkie-talkiecallingtoandfromselectcountries.
Group Connect — allows walkie- talkie calling to
upto 25 Nextel customers simultaneously(see
“GroupConnectTM Calls” on page 52) .

yourp hone. Begin talking afteryour p hone emits
achirping sound.

Tip:To let som eone know you want to talk to
him or her on a Direct Connect call, send a
callalert. See “Call Alerts” on page26.

Dialing Direct Connect®Numbers

EveryDirect Connect numberhas 3 parts — an
areaID, a network ID, anda member ID — with an
asteriskbetweeneach of these parts.For example:
999*999*9999.
When you place a Direct Connect call, you must
enter the whole Direct C onnect number includi ng
theasterisks.
