48 Chapter 2 Network configuration
High-density switched workgroup application
Figure 8 shows an example of using a BayStack 420 Switch with a high-speed (gigabit) connection to a Nortel Networks Passport* 1100 switch. BayStack 303 and BayStack 304 switches are also shown in this example of a high-density switched workgroup.
As shown in Figure 8, the Passport 1100 switch is used as a backbone switch, connecting to the BayStack 420 Switch with an optional (1000BASE-SX) GBIC for maximum bandwidth. The BayStack 303 and BayStack 304 switches have 100 Mb/s connections to the BayStack 420 Switch, a 100BASE-TX hub, and a 100 Mb/s server as well as 10 Mb/s connections to DTE (data terminal equipment).
See the Nortel Networks library Web page www.nortelnetworks.com/ documentation for online documentation about the Nortel Networks Passport 1100 switch and the BayStack 303 and BayStack 304 switches.
