4.7.1 RSTP System Configuration

This page allows you to configure RSTP system settings. The settings are used by all RSTP Bridge instances in the Switch or switch Stack. The Managed Switch support the following Spanning Tree protocols:

Compatiable -- Spanning Tree Protocol (STP):Provides a single path between end stations, avoiding and eliminating loops.

Normal -- Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol (RSTP) : Detects and uses of network topologies that provide faster spanning tree convergence, without creating forwarding loops.

The RSTP System Configuration screen in Figure 4-7-7appears.

The page includes the following fields:

Object

Description

System Priority

A value used to represent the priority component of a Bridge Identifier.

Max Age

The maximum age of the information transmitted by the Bridge when it is the

Root Bridge. Valid values are in the range 6 to 200 seconds.

-Default: 20

-Minimum:The higher of 6 or [2 x (Hello Time + 1)].

-Maximum:The lower of 40 or [2 x (Forward Delay -1)]

Forward Delay

The delay used by STP Bridges to transition Root and Designated Ports to

Forwarding (used in STP compatible mode). Valid values are in the range 4 to 30

seconds

-Default: 15

-Minimum:The higher of 4 or [(Max. Message Age / 2) + 1]

-Maximum: 30

Protocol Version

The STP compatibility mode setting.

Normal – Rapid STP (802.1w): Detects and uses of network topologies that provide faster spanning tree convergence, without creating forwarding loops.
