More proportionally humanoid “good characters”—such as Lara Croft, Jin Kazama from Tekken 3, or Solid Snake from Metal Gear Solid— work (on this purely static, visual dimension) in a slightly different way, in that they borrow from cinematic conventions of costume and coolness. It is almost certainly no coincidence that Metal Gear Solid’s cigarette-loving, husky-voiced hero shares one of his names with Kurt Russell’s character in Escape from New York, Snake Pliskin.
