God’s gift
In the beginning, heaven and earth were married. Gaia (earth) and Uranus (the heavens) then gave birth to the Titans, the twelve gods of earliest times. They had dominion over all the cosmos. The youngest Titan, Kronos, married his sister Rhea, but he knew that he was fated to be supplanted by one of his children. In order to protect himself, he hit upon the strategy of eating them all, one by one, as they were born. However, when the last child, Zeus, fought his way from the womb, Rhea, sick of her wasted efforts, tricked her husband and gave him a stone to eat instead, hiding Zeus away in Crete. When Zeus grew up, he forced Kronos to disgorge the stone along with
