Troubleshooting Expansion Cards

CAUTION: Many repairs may only be done by a certified service technician. You should only perform troubleshooting and simple repairs as authorized in your product documentation, or as directed by the online or telephone service and support team. Damage due to servicing that is not authorized by Dell is not covered by your warranty. Read and follow the safety instructions that came with the product.

NOTE: When troubleshooting an expansion card, see the documentation for your operating system and the expansion card.

1Turn off the sled and attached peripherals.

2Remove the sled from the enclosure. See "Removing a Compute Sled" on page 192.

3Open the sled. See the compute sled’s documentation for more information.

4Ensure that each expansion card is firmly seated in its connector.

5Reinstall the sled into the enclosure.

6Turn on the sled and attached peripherals.

7If the problem is not resolved, see "Getting Help" on page 289.

Troubleshooting Processors

1Turn off the sled and attached peripherals.

2Remove the sled from the server enclosure. See "Removing a Compute Sled" on page 192.

3Open the sled. See the compute sled’s documentation for more information.

4Remove the cooling shroud.

5Ensure that each heat sink is properly installed.

6Ensure that there is thermal grease on the heat sink and processor.
