ConnectingAC Power to an EX8200 Switch
EX8200switches can be configured with up to six AC powersupplies. After you have
installedat least one powersupply, you can connect power to the switch.
CAUTION: Mixingdifferenttypes of power supplies in the same chassis is not a supported
configuration.
NOTE: Eachpower supply must be connectedto a dedicated AC power source outlet.
Beforeyou begin to connect powerto the switch:
Ensureyou understand how to prevent ESD damage.See “Prevention of Electrostatic
DischargeDamage on EX Series Switches” on page292.
Ensurethat you have connected the switchchassis to earth ground.
CAUTION: Tomeetsafety and electromagnetic interference(EMI) requirements and
toensure proper operation, EX8200 switches must be adequatelygrounded before
theyare connected to power.
Forinstallations that require a separategrounding conductor to the chassis, use the
protectiveearthing terminal on the EX8200 switch chassis toconnect to the earth
ground. For instructions on connecting an EX8200 switch to ground using a separate
groundingconductor, see “Connecting Earth Ground toan EX Series Switch” on page 167.
AnEX8200 switch gets additional grounding when you plug the powersupply in the
switchinto a grounded AC power outletby using the AC power cord appropriate for
yourgeographical location. See “ACPower Cord Specificationsfor an EX8200 Switch”
onpage 112.
Installpower supplies in the switch. See “Installing an ACPower Supply in an EX8200
Switch”on page 150.
Ensurethat you have the following partsand tools available to connect power tothe
switch:
Electrostaticdischarge (ESD)grounding strap
Powercords appropriate foryour geographical location. See “ACPower Cord
Specificationsfor an EX8200 Switch” on page112.
