Topack the switch (seeFigure 112 on page 258):
1. Movethe woodenpallet and packing material to a staging areaas close to the switch
aspossible. Make sure there is enough space tomove the chassis from the rack or
cabinetto the wooden pallet.
2. Removethe switch from the rack or cabinet.For EX8208 switches, see “Removing
anEX8208 Switch from a Rack or Cabinet Using a Mechanical Lift” on page202 or
“Removingan EX8208 Switch from a Rack or Cabinet WithoutUsing a Mechanical
Lift”on page 203). For EX8216 switches,see Removing an EX8216 Switch froma Rack
orCabinet.
Movethe chassis to the shipping pallet (see “Chassis Lifting Guidelines forEX8200
Switches”on page 276). Position the switch on the palletso that the front of the
switchis facing the silkscreened “front” mark on the pallet.The pallet also has crop
marksto guide you in positioning the chassis.
3. Usethe 7/16-in. or 11-mm open-end or socket wrench to install the four sets of
bracketsand bolts that secure the chassisto the wooden pallet.
4. Slidethe plasticcover over the switchchassis. The plastic cover is part of the switch’s
originalpacking materials.
5. Replacethe foam padding on top of the chassis.
6. Placethe power cords in the box.
7. Removethe adjustablemounting brackets from the rack or cabinet and placethem
andtheir connecting screws in the accessory box.
8. Placetheaccessory box in its slot in the foam padding.See “Parts Inventory (Packing
List)for an EX8208 Switch” on page 130 or Parts Inventory(Packing List) for an
EX8216Switch to verify that you haveincluded all the proper contents of the
accessorybox.
9. Slidethe cardboard box over the chassis,making sure that the arrows on the box
pointup and the pallet fasteners to securethe cardboard box to the wooden pallet
arenear the bottom.
10. Attachthe cardboard box to the woodenpallet using the four pallet fasteners
attachedto the pallet. See Figure 111 on page257. Squeeze together the two ridges
(“fins”)in the depression in each pallet fastener,then slide each fastener into its
correspondingslot in the cardboard box and releasethe ridges to secure the latch.
