WARNING: Donot leave a fiber-optic transceiveruncovered except when inserting or
removinga cable. The rubber safetycap keeps the port clean and prevents accidental
exposureto laser light.
CAUTION: Donot bend fiber-optic cables beyond their minimum bend radius. An arc
smallerthan a few inches in diameter candamage the cables and cause problems that
aredifficult to diagnose.
3. Removethe cable connectedto the transceiver (see “Disconnecting a Fiber-Optic
Cablefrom an EX Series Switch” on page221). Cover the transceiver and the end of
eachfiber-optic cable connector with a rubber safetycap immediately after
disconnectingthe fiber-optic cables.
4. Usingyour fingers, pull the ejector lever on the transceiverto unlock the transceiver.
CAUTION: Beforeremoving the transceiver, make sure you open the ejector lever
completelyuntil you hear it click. This preventsdamage to the transceiver.
5. Usingthe needlenose pliers, pull the ejector lever out fromthe transceiver.
6. Graspthe transceiver ejector leverand gently slide the transceiver approximately
0.5in. (1.3 cm) straight out of the port.
CAUTION: Toavoidelectrostatic discharge (ESD) damageto the transceiver, do not
touchthe connector pins at the end of the transceiver.
7. Usingyour fingers, graspthe body of the transceiver and pull it straight out of the
port.
8. Placethe transceiver in the antistatic bagor on the antistatic mat placed on a flat,
stablesurface.
9. Placethe dust cover overthe empty port.
