Setting the IP Address

The IP address is the address used by the SNMP manager to access the device. For devices using PPP, the IP address can be negotiated, if the network device, e.g., router or SNMP manager, supports such negotiation. The IP address is composed of four fields with three digits per field (xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx).

The IP address is set for either the COM port or the MODEM port, depending on which one has been chosen as the SNMP communications link. The example below assumes that an IP address of 010.155.111.222 is being set for the MODEM port. You can use the same principles to assign any value (between 000 and 255 for each digit field) to either port.
