Chapter 15

Track operations and editing

This chapter explains how to use and edit the tracks of the recorder section.

About the AW2400’s tracks

The AW2400 has the following types of track.

Audio Tracks

The physical tracks used to record and play back audio data are called “audio tracks,” or simply “tracks.” The AW2400 has twenty-four audio tracks.

Stereo Track

Independently from audio tracks 1–24, the AW2400 has a “stereo track” that records and plays a stereo audio signal. The stereo track is used mainly as a dedicated mixdown track for recording the final mix.

Virtual Tracks

Each audio track 1–24 and the stereo track consists of eight tracks. Each of these eight tracks is called a “virtual track.” For the audio tracks and the stereo track, only one virtual track can be recorded or played at any time.

The diagram below shows the concept of virtual tracks. The horizontal rows indicate audio tracks 1–24, and the vertical columns correspond to virtual tracks 1–8. The shaded areas indicate the virtual track that is currently selected for recording or playback.

Trigger Tracks

The “Trigger Track” function allows the track [ON] keys and faders to be used to start and stop playback of recorded tracks. When the Trigger Track function is active pressing a track channel [ON] key begins playback of the corresponding track from the beginning of the song to the end of the data recorded on that track.
