RECORDING (5) – ANALOG-SOURCE RECORDING

This recording mode is for recording analog signals from sources such as cassette, vinyl records or analog mixing consoles.

The following instructions explain how to perform analog recording.

ÖConnect the analog input correctly to the XLR (balanced) or line (unbalanced) input sockets.

1 Load a CD-R or CD-RW disc containing space for recording. If the disc is finalized recording will not be possible.

ÖAfter loading the disc check, the CD-R or CD-RW indicator stops blinking and lights steadily.

2 Select the input to be used for recording with the INPUT SELECTOR.

ÖSelect XLR +4dBu, XLR –8dBu, or LINE (phono sockets)

3 Press the RECORD ¦ button, or press the two ¦ REC buttons on the remote control unit.

ÖThis unit enters record-pause mode.

4 Adjust the recording level. (Refer to page 68 for the recording level adjustment method.)

ÖStart playback of the source component to set the recording level. When the recording level is set, stop playback of the source component, and proceed to step 5.

ÖThe margin indicator can be a useful reference when setting the recording level (page 42).

5 Press the 8 or 3 button on this unit.

ÖPress the 8 or 3 buttons after the counter displays “00:00”.

ÖStart playback of the source player after having started the recording of this unit.

ÖTrack numbers are automatically updated when the AUTO TRACK indicator is on. This function assumes that silent passages longer than 2 seconds mark the area between two tracks and automatically starts a new track number when a sound is detected next. Passages with a low input level or noise during passages that are supposed to be silent causes the function to misjudge where new track numbers should be created. In cases like these, set the AUTO TRACK level lower or create new track numbers manually (pages 80).

6 After recording is complete, press the 7 button to end recording.

Ö“PMA REC” is displayed and the unit stops after recording the track data.
