If the link LED does not come on when the computer is turned on, a link is not established with the hub or switch.
Check the cabling or substitute it with a cable that has been verified to work correctly.
Make sure the hub or switch is either 10BaseT or 100BaseTX and is turned on and fully functional.
Check with your local Compaq authorized service provider for an updated BIOS.
