Speed—Select the highest transmission speed or baud rate.

The maximum connection speed is determined by the speed of the slowest modem on the connection. The internal modem negotiates the fastest speed possible with the remote modem.

The internal modem supports

ITU (International Telecommunications Union) analog modem recommendations for speeds up to 33.6 Kbps.

ITU digital/analog modem pair recommendations for speeds up to 56 Kbps.

NOTE: The digital/analog modem pair rates allow faster downloads only from compliant digital sources. Maximum achievable download rates are currently unknown, may not reach 56Kbps, and will vary with line conditions. Maximum achievable upload rates are limited to 31.2Kbps, may not reach 31.2Kbps, and will vary with line conditions.

Using Modem Commands and Dial Modifiers

You can configure most communications software without the use of AT commands or dial modifiers.

If you prefer to configure the modem using AT commands, select StartProgramsAccessoriesHyperTerminal.

Command sets for all modem models are available at the Compaq Web site at http://www.compaq.com and on the Armada Reference Library & Quick Restore CD included with the computer. The command sets list and describe AT commands, Status registers, and result codes.

To view, print, or install modem commands from the CD— Insert the Armada Reference Library & Quick Restore CD into the CD drive, choose to install the modem commands for your modem, then follow the installation instructions on the screen.
