POST Error Codes and Messages
Whenever a recoverable error occurs during POST, BIOS displays a message on the video display screen to indicate both status and error conditions and causes the speaker to beep as the message appears. BIOS also issues a beep code (one long tone followed by two short tones) during POST if the video configuration fails or if an external ROM module does not a checksum of zero. The BIOS indicates errors by writing an error code to the standard logging area in the Extended BIOS Data Area, and by displaying a message on the screen, which is sometimes preceded by the POST Error Code. The error code is also logged to the Event Logging area.
Recommended actions are specified for each error condition and some will prompt you to remove and replace CRUs. Refer to Chapter 4 for the CRUs associated with the error codes displayed.
