Memory DIMM Configurations

The processor/memory board has eight 168-pin DIMM sockets for a total of up to 1GB of system memory, using 128MB DIMMs. See Figure B-1.

The sockets are arranged in a bank that supports a 64- bit wide data path with 8 parity bits. Timing requires 60 ns devices. Parity generation/checking is provided for each byte. Separate banks of DIMMs may have different sizes of memory installed.

A DIMM bank consists of a single 72-pin 60 ns device with gold plated edge connectors as follows:

4M x 72 DIMM = 32MB

8M x 72 DIMM = 64MB

16M x 72 DIMM = 128MB.

A DIMM should be installed in the first (M1) socket. Otherwise, you can add any size DIMM in any socket. Table B-1 lists the distribution of DIMMs for system memory configurations.
