This section provides an overview o f the controls within the Sampler.
Record Sample Button
Samples c an be categorized into two groups: one-shot samples and loops. One-shot samples are sounds that p lay once
when you trigger th em and are not automatically synchron ized to your mix. Loops are samples t hat will play repeatedly—
when the e nd of the sample is reached, playback will return to the beginning. Torq will pl ay these loops in sync with the
Master Tempo, allowing you to use multiple l oops from different sources all at once.
The method in which you u se the Sampler’s Record bu tton will determine whether you record a loop or one- shot
sample:
< Recording One-Shot Samples
1. Press the Pre-F ader Listen (PFL) button in t he Mixer to indicate the desired source of the sample. The butt on
will light up.
2. Press t he circular RECORD butt on in the sample-c ell you want to record to. The button will t urn red to
indicate that Torq is recording.
3. When the Record button is pressed ag ain, the button wi ll turn off, and the recording will stop. The sample is
now ready to play.
< Recording Looped Samples
1. To record a loop instead of a one-shot, p ress and hold SHIFT while clicking on the Record button. Instead of
beginning recording immediately, recording will wait for the downbeat (determined via the phase infor mation of
the source Deck). The Record button will b e yellow while it’s waiting for the downbeat. Once th e downbeat is
reached, the button w ill turn red and recording will commence.
2. Clicking the Record button ag ain while recording w ill not stop record ing immediately. Inste ad, recording will
continue unti l the end of the next bar (again, determined by phase information from the sou rce Deck). The
Record button will be yellow whi le it’s waiting for the end of the bar (the Samp ler will be recording during this
time). Once the end of the ba r is re ached, recording will stop and t he loop will b e ready to pl ay (loop will alre ady
be selected).
< Naming Scheme for Recorded Samples
Each time you record a samp le, Torq will give it t he name “ SampleXXX.wav” where XX X is an automatically
generated number. The num ber will increment every ti me you create a new sample, regardless of which Sampler
you use for the recording. The rs t sample you record will be named “ Sample001.wav.” The next sample that is
recorded will be named “Sa mple002.wav,” and so on. This numbering can be reset to s tart at 001 within the Torq
Preferences menu.
