Chapter 24 Replacing data cards and processing hardware 317

Warning: Protect the hardware components against damage from electrostatic discharge. Always wear a grounded wrist strap before you handle components. Always place the components in a static-free container.

To remove a DIMM card

1Shut down the system (see “Performing a system shutdown” on page 231).

2Disconnect the BCM system from the AC power outlet.

3Disconnect any connectors from the front of the base function tray.

4Remove the main unit cover. See “Removing the main unit top cover” on page 244.

5Attach one end of the grounding strap to your wrist and the other end to a grounded metal surface.

6Partially remove the base function tray from the main unit. Ensure you do not pinch, stretch, or damage any cables.

7Remove the base function tray bezel. See “To remove the base function tray bezel” on page 237.

8Remove the WAN card (if applicable). See “To remove the WAN card” on page 301.

9Detach the DS30 cable connectors from the MSC.

10Remove the base function tray completely from the main unit. Ensure you do not pinch, stretch, or damage any cables. See “Removing the base function tray” on page 234.

11Remove the media services card (see “To remove the media services card (MSC)” on page 304).

12Carefully push down on the fastening tabs on either side of the DIMM you want to remove. As you press down on the fastening tabs, the DIMM lifts out of the DIMM slot.

13Grasp both ends of the DIMM with your fingertips. Lift the DIMM up and away from the DIMM slot (see Figure 173 on page 317). Place the DIMM in a static-free container.
