4. Driver Installation

This chapter describes how to install the SATA RAID controller driver to your operating system. The installation procedures use the following terminology:

Installing operating system on the SATA Volume

If you have a new drive configuration without an operating system and want to install operating system on a disk drive managed by the SATA RAID Controller. The driver installation is a part of the operat- ing system installation.

Installing SATA RAID controller into an existing operating system

The computer has an existing operating system installed and the SATA RAID controller is being installed as a secondary controller.

Have all required system hardware and software components on hand before proceeding with the setup and installation. Materials required:

Microsoft Windows 2000/XP/2003, Linux, FreeBSD or more installa- tion

CD-ROM

SATA RAID Controller Diver CD-ROM

SATA RAID controller

4.1 Creating the Driver Diskettes

The CD-ROM disc shipped with the SATA RAID controller is a self- booting CD. In order to created driver diskettes for Windows, Linux, FreeBSD or more installation drivers, your system is re- quired to support booting from the CD-ROM.

If you do not have the CD-ROM disc with the package, contact your local dealer or you can also download the latest version drivers for Windows 2000/XP/2003, Linux, freeBSD and more from the ARECA web site at http://www.areca.com.tw
