REGISTERING USERS AND SETTING PASSWORDS
REGISTERING USERS AND SETTING PASSWORDS
Register as many users with the administrator right as required and as many users with the monitor right as required.
To register a user, use the username command in global config mode. The parameters to the username com- mand are the user name, password, and user right (either administrator or monitor). The user name and the password may be up to 250 characters in total. The user name may, however, be up to 16 characters.
For checking, use the show
MEMO 1: To change the password of a registered user, use the password command.
MEMO 2: To erase a registered user, use the no username command.
MEMO 3: To set a password, use either plain or plain hash. If, after entry, you check the setting with the show config command, the password will be displayed as a hash value.
NOTE 1: For security, the password should be a combination of characters and digits that is difficult for other people to guess.
NOTE 2: See to it that you never forget the passwords. If you should forget the passwords of all users with the administrator right, you can no longer make setting changes. In that event, you must per- form a super reset. At a super reset, both running config and startup config will be lost.
