CHAPTER 5 EXAMPLES OF SETUP ON NETWORKS

PPPoE SETUP EXAMPLE

Setting the DNS server

Use proxy DNS. To use the DNS server address permanently, set the address as follows:

Router (config − Ethernet0.1) # exit Enter

Router (config) # proxy − dns server (DNS server address) Enter

Router (config) # proxy − dns enable Enter

Router (config) #

MEMO: If using proxy DNS, register the IP address set in the FastEthernet0.0 of the In-Skin Router as the DNS server address to be set on this terminal.

To let IPCP automatically acquire the address of the DNS server, perform the following instead of the above example.

Router (config − Ethernet0.1) # exit Enter

Router (config) # proxy − dns dynamic ipcp Enter

Router (config) # proxy − dns enable Enter

Router (config) #

Shutting down a PPPoE connection

To shut down a PPPoE connection, be sure to use the shutdown command. This causes a PPPoE discon- nection sequence to be performed between the In-Skin Router and the provider-side access server.

Router (config) # interface FastEthernet0.0 Enter

Router (config − FastEthernet0.0) # shutdown Enter

Router (config − FastEthernet0.0) #

NOTE: If you shut down a connection by turning OFF the power switch or by other means, instead of using the shutdown command, it will take a few minutes to establish the next connection.
