CHAPTER 3 BASICOPERATIONS AND VARIOUS EXPLANATIONS

SETTING DATA AND PROGRAM FILES

Operation area (DRAM)

This is the memory area where you can overwrite and erase data.

At startup, DRAM is cleared entirely, and program files and startup config are loaded from flash memory. To make changes in setting data with a command is to make changes in running config in this area.

Startup config and running config

At startup, startup config is loaded into DRAM and becomes running config, so that immediately after star- tup, startup config and running config are identical. If you make setting changes with a command, running config will differ from startup config.

To always keep startup config up to date, be sure to update startup config by overwriting it with running config with the write memory command whenever you have made setting changes.

Startup sequence

At startup by turning ON the power switch

When you turn ON the power switch, the following sequence of operations takes place:

(1)With the power switch turned ON, the boot section starts to operate to perform self-diagnosis of the In-Skin Router.

(2)The DRAM area is cleared.

(3)The program set with the boot entry command is loaded.

(4)The program is loaded into DRAM as the program to be executed.

(5)Startup config is loaded into DRAM as running config.

If no startup config is found, the factory settings are used at startup.
