Some of these options are dial control characters which insert pauses and other special characters within the telephone number. The following list describes these options:

Change the current dialing method to pulse dialing service.

Change the current dialing method to touch-tone dialing service.

Wait up to 30 seconds for secondary dial tone (AT&T protocol).

Wait up to 30 seconds for secondary dial tone (Hayes protocol).

2-second pause.

Pause character.

Delimiter separating telephone number and callback directory pointer

 

for use with call-back security.

Reserved for future use.

Placed at the end of a dial string. Temporarily changes half-duplex

For example, you can enter 9+12015551212t. The plus symbol (+) represents a 30-second pause to wait for a secondary dial tone. The t indicates that touch-tone dialing service is being used.
