Network Browser
This chapter describes how to us e the Network Browser application , which is launched from the CW M
desktop. The Netwo rk Browser application provides a hierarchi cal representation of network elements,
including networks, nodes, cards, lines and ports, displayed in tree format in the left panel of the
Network Browsers main window. Associated information about a sele cted network element is displa yed
in table format in the ri gh t pa nel of the Network Brows er w in d ow.
Each network element managed by Ci sco WAN Manager (CWM) has its own attributes and fits into the
networks physical or logical hier ar ch y. In Relea s e 1 0 o f CW M , the Network Browser presents the
network elements that are discovered, managed, and controlled in a hierarchical view for all networks
populated in the tables by CWM processes.
The Network Browser displays the netwo r k elements in a hierarchical format based o n either a physical
or logical relationship among the various network elements. Networ ks are displayed at the root level of
the component tree, and nodes and trunks are displayed beneath the networks in a parent/child
relationship.
The Network Browser also d i splays informational mes sa ges in a multi-line text d isp la y; other types of
messages can be displayed in response to user actions.

Launching the Network Browser

To launch the Network Browser a pp li cation, click on the Net wo r k B rowser icon, which is foun d o n the
Network Topology tool bar, or select the Network Browser application from the Apps pull-down menu
located on the main menu bar.
Note Updates will not be reflected i n the Network Browser if t he CW M core is not running.

After launching the Networ k B rowser application for the fir st t ime, you will see a root n od e c all ed
Browser in the left pan e l of t he window, and discovered net wo r ks i n the right panel of th e window in
table format, as shown in Figure5-1.
