Security Manager
Release 10 of CWM Security Manager (SM) is a new Java-based application that is launched from the
desktop. The Security M an ag e r p rovides controlled access to m u lt ip le users of Cisco WAN Manager
(CWM), based on the us e rs UNIX User ID and password.
Security Manager provides user-access p rofi les th at can b e customized for each user. The user-access
profile is a list of operations or ac tions a user can perform coup led w i th ass i gn ed a cce s s p rivi lege s f or
each action. A user can be assi gned ac cess privileges to read, create (write ), mo d if y, and/or de let e.
By default, only the svplus user can start and stop the CWM core processes. The svplus user has
sufficient access privileges to launch all C W M a pplications and administer the Secu r it y M a na ge r
application.
Other users can be assigned ac cess pr ivilege s th at en ab le them to perform operations w i th in
security-controlled applications. These operations can be limited depending on the setting of access
privileges by those who administer Security Management. Without the proper access privileges, users
cannot launch security-controlled applications.

Security Manager Requirements

To use CWM Security Mana ge r application, you must fir s t do two things:
Use the addnewuser as root, to add a new Unix userID and password.
Note Each CWM Security Manager user must have a unique Unix userID separate from their
existing userID.
The new user can be added to the CWM Security system by svplus (or any other security
administrator), and access privileges assigned through the CWM Security Manager application.
To add a user, complete the following steps:
Step 1 At the CWM console prompt, enter su and provide a password.
host% su
Password:
Step 2 At the root prompt, enter the follow ing:
