Chapter8 Statistics Collection Manager CWM-CWM Communications
The Start Collection Dialog al low s co ll ect ion configuration for the Prim ar y, Second ar y, and Tertiary
collection servers. Also, the stats database host can be set, and IP Routing can be designated as inband
or out-of-band as seen in Figure8-12.
CWM-CWM Communications
Release 10 of Cisco WAN Mana ger has been designed to enable multiple CW M workstations to ma nage
a network with improved network synchron iz ati on and scalability. The architecture uses a server-cli en t
structure for communications be tw ee n the CWM server and client p roce sses.
CWM workstations use CWM-CWM C omm unications to synchronize user da ta w it h each ot he r. When
user data is provisioned or changed, the CWM workstations will propagate the new data to the other
CWM workstations. The user is able to continue the provisioning of network data, even when
communications between a Primary CWM and Secon dary CWM ha ve been interrup ted. If for any rea son
the communications between CWM servers ar e interr upte d, the provi sion ing of the use r data will be
suspended on the Secondary CWM, bu t n ot on t he Pri mar y C WM as use r data p ro vis io ning wil l cont in ue
on the Primary CWM. During that time, the provisioning of user data and monitoring of the network are
not impacted.
In a given wide area network managed by Release 10 of CWM, the first CWM workstation to begin
operation will assume the role of Primary CWM. A s other CWM workstation s become active, they will
take on Secondary CWM workstation roles. The only difference in function between Primary and
Secondary CWM workstations is that the Primary CWM workstation would provide the Secondary
CWM workstations with user d ata w he n the Secondary CWM workstati on l au nc he s .
Priority numbers of all Second ar ie s ar e as sig n ed by th e P ri mar y at th e t im e a S eco n da ry regi s ters w i th
the Primary. It is based on first-come-first-serve logic. All the Seco nd ar ie s h ave th e s a m e privilege
except that the Secondary wi th priority 1 will take over as th e P r ima ry if the Primary shuts dow n.
SCM CWM-CWM Gateway Support
Stats collection is populated from the Primary SCM to the Secondary SCM. Primary gateways save
enabling information and forwar d dat a t o th e S e co nd ar y h ost v ia th e S t ats Master.
Time Sync
Timing in SCM is qualified by the n ode time and a sequence to con nect from Primary to Secondary with
a set maximum amount of retries.
SCM Inband and Out-of-band
TFTP and FTP are used to transf er files u s in g th e n et wor k IP a ddress for inband communicatio ns, and
the LAN IP address for out-of-band communications.
