Version 10.5, Part Number 78-12945-01 Rev. D0, August 2003
Chapter1 Cisco WAN Manager Overview
CWM Release 10 Applicat i on s
of service. The end-to-end co nnection is automatically established without requiri ng configuration of the
network on a switch-by-switch basis. In addition, each connections status can be viewed from one
endpoint to the other.
Connection management is one of the most challenging issues in ATM network management. ATM
networks support so many connections that it can become impossible to administer and manage them.
The Connection Service MIB provides integrated automated provisioning of connections based on
quality of service parameters, such as the type of connection being made, available bandwidth, and the
current state of the network.
The Connection Service MIB pr ovide s a standard SNMP interface for th e WAN ATM network at the
service level. Service providers who are responsible for managing th e entire shared network can use t his
interface to integrate with au tomated Operations Suppor t Systems (OSS) provision ing systems, and also
to provide Customer Network Management (CNM) views and control capabilities on a per-connection
basis.
Network Browser
The Network Browser ap pl ication provides a hi er ar c h ica l representation of ne twork information in a
table format. Each network ele ment m ana ged by C isc o WAN Manager (CWM) has i ts own attributes and
fits in the networks physical or logical hierarchy. In Release 10 of CWM, th e Network Bro wse r present s
the network elements that are discove red, managed, and controlled in a h ierarchical view for all networks
populated in the network table by CWM processes.
The Network Browser displays the netwo rk elements in a hiera rchical format base d o n either a physical
or logical relationship among the various network elements. Networks are displayed at the root level of
the component tree, and nodes and trunks are displayed beneath the networks in a parent/child
relationship.
The Network Browser also dis p la ys i n fo r m at io na l messages in a multi-line text display. Other types of
messages can be displayed in response to user actions.
Service Class Template Manager
The Service Class Template (SCT) application is a new Java-base d ap plic ation for Release 10 of CWM
that allows for creating SCT files whic h can then be loaded to node s, an d ca n be associated with
interfaces on cards within these nodes. This application is launched from the CWM desktop and allows
users and network op er at ors to configure AXS M , A X S M - E, and RPM cards, us i ng the Service Class
Template feature. Specifically, users or network operators are able to use the SCT application to create,
modify, delete, load, and associat e SC T files to AXSM cards and por ts .
Statistics Collection Manager
The Statistics Collection Ma na ge r (S C M ) for Re lease 10 of CWM is a new stand al one collector that
allows a separate SCM collection ser ve r i n bo t h i ns tal lat io n an d s tat ist ics collection. This new feature
allows you to control and manage statistics collection through a stand alone application. The Statistics
Controller Server, Statistics Collection Se rve r, and Sta tist ic s Parser Server provide statistics applicabl e
to the different cards and nodes.
