NEC VT 300 Series manual General Rules

his chapter provides installation instructions for a variety of industry-standard and NEC CSD expansion options that you can add to your system.

Included in the chapter are procedures for

memory module upgrade

processor upgrade

expansion board installation

TAGP board installation

data storage device installation.

Most procedures require removal of the system’s left side cover. Some procedures require removing the right side cover and the front panel. Procedures for removing the covers and front panel are included in this chapter.

General Rules

Follow these general rules when installing system options.

Turn off system power and unplug the power cable.

Turn off and disconnect all peripherals from the front or rear of the system.

When handling boards or chips, touch the system metal frame to discharge static.

Do not disassemble parts other than those specified in the procedure.

TAll screws are Phillips-head unless otherwise specified.

Label any cable connectors before disconnecting. Note where the connector goes and in what position it was installed.
