Installing the WLAN Application Gateway 2246

Step Action

1Place the WLAN Application Gateway 2246 on a shelf or convenient location.

Note: The WLAN Application Gateway 2246 is physically connected to the Ethernet switch and can be placed in any convenient location within 325 ft (100 m) of the switch. It can also be rack-mounted.

2Connect the power plug from the WLAN Application Gateway 2246 power adapter to the power jack on the front (or rear) of the box.

ATTENTION

IMPORTANT

Use only the power adapter provided by Nortel.

3Plug the power adapter into an outlet or outlet strip.

4Apply power to the WLAN Application Gateway 2246.

5Ensure that the ERROR LED is off and LED 1 is blinking.

Configuring the WLAN Application Gateway 2246 IP address

You must connect to the WLAN Application Gateway 2246 through a serial connection to configure the IP address and the network parameters. After this is done, you can perform administration and further configuration through a Telnet connection using the Administration Console.

Follow the steps in Procedure 14 "Connecting to the WLAN Application Gateway 2246 through a serial port" (page 152) to make a serial connection to the WLAN Application Gateway 2246.

Connecting to the WLAN Application Gateway 2246 through a serial port

Step Action

1Using a DB-9 female, null-modem cable, connect the WLAN Application Gateway 2246 to the serial port of a terminal or PC.

2Run a terminal emulation program (such as HyperTerminal) or use a VT-100 terminal with the following configuration:
