SERVSWITCH™ MULTI

8.6 Channel Scanning

Once you activate the ServSwitch Multi’s channel-scanning feature, the Switch will automatically sequentially scan its channels without further intervention from you. When the Switch detects keyboard or mouse activity, scanning is suspended—the computer currently being scanned is temporarily selected—until all activity stops. Scanning then resumes with the next channel in sequence. You can change the “dwell time”—the length of time the Switch pauses at each computer channel (keeping that channel’s video on screen) during a scan— whenever you want to. Scanning is halted if you permanently select a computer channel or if you issue the Scan Halt command.

You can control channel scanning with these keystroke-sequence commands:

Issue the Keyboard-scan Dwell command (“<CM>KDnn[Enter]”) to set the dwell time, where nn=a one- or two-digit number of seconds from 1 to 65. The default setting is “5” (5 seconds).

Issue the Keyboard-scan Go command (“<CM>KG[Enter]”) to start a scan of the computer channels beginning with the currently selected channel.

Issue the Keyboard-scan Halt command (“<CM>KH[Enter]”) to stop a scan in progress.

Cascaded systems only: Issue the Keyboard-scan Maximum command (“<CM>KMnnn[Enter]”) to indicate the highest ServSwitch Multi unit address that should be scanned, where nnn = a one-, two-, or three-digit decimal number from 1 to 254.

Cascaded systems only: Issue the Keyboard-scan Local Reset command (“<CM>KM0[Enter]”) to force the Switch to scan only its own local channels.

Here’s a sample of a channel-scanning session, with an accompanying explanation for each step:

1.Type in “<CM>KD10[Enter]” to set the dwell time to 10 seconds. During a scan, the ServSwitch Multi will pause for 10 seconds at each scanned channel.

2.Type in “<CM>KG[Enter]” to start a scan. The Switch will display the currently selected channel for 10 seconds, then the next channel in sequence for 10 seconds, and so on.

3.Type in “<CM>KD3[Enter]” to set the dwell time to 3 seconds. The Switch will continue scanning, but will begin pausing at each channel for only 3 seconds.

4.Type in “<CM>KH[Enter]” to end the scan. The channel that was being scanned when the command was entered becomes the selected channel.

5.Type in “<CM>KG[Enter]” to start a new scan.

6.Type in “<CM>J[Enter]” to end the scan by selecting channel J on the local ServSwitch Multi.
