8.8 Follow Mode

SERVSWITCH™ MULTI

8.8 Follow Mode

In Follow Mode, a sharing user (see Section 8.3) can “follow” an independent user’s channel switching. For example, suppose John and Melissa are users at different consoles in a ServSwitch Multi system. Melissa is training John in server maintenance, so John is watching what she does at each computer. John wants to automatically change channels along with Melissa, so he places his console in Follow Mode, setting Melissa’s console as the leader. Now, when Melissa changes to a channel, John automatically switches to the same one.

You can control Follow Mode with these keystroke-sequence commands:

Issue the Follow Leader command (“<CM>FOLLOWAddr[Enter]”) to identify a user channel as the leader your console should follow when you are in Follow Mode.

Enter the Save command (“<CM>SAVE[Enter]”) to save the Follow Leader setting in nonvolatile memory.

Issue the Follow Go command (“<CM>FOLLOW+[Enter]”) to activate Follow Mode.

Issue the Follow Halt command (“<CM>FOLLOW–[Enter]”) to quit Follow Mode.

8.9 Swap Mode

In Swap Mode, two users can automatically exchange a pair of computer channels whenever one switches to the other’s channel. For example, suppose John and Melissa are users at different consoles in a ServSwitch Multi system. When Melissa starts working on John’s computer, John wants to be automatically switched to Melissa’s computer, and vice versa. John and Melissa both place their consoles in Swap Mode. Now, John and Melissa will swap channels when either one switches to the other’s computer.

You can control Swap Mode with these keystroke-sequence commands:

Issue the Swap Partner command (“<CM>SWAPAddr[Enter]”) to identify a user channel as the partner you want to swap computer channels with when you are in Swap Mode.

Enter the Save command (“<CM>SAVE[Enter]”) to save the Swap Partner setting in nonvolatile memory.

Issue the Swap Go command (“<CM>SWAP+[Enter]”) to activate Swap Mode.

Issue the Swap Halt command (“<CM>SWAP–[Enter]”) to quit Swap Mode.

8.10 Privacy Mode

When you select your computer channel in Privacy Mode by entering the “<CM>XAddr[Enter]” keystroke- sequence command, no other console in the system can switch to your channel. If any other users try to select your private channel, they will simply remain on their present channels instead. Take your channel out of Privacy Mode by switching to another channel or reselecting your current channel normally (“<CM>Addr[Enter]”).
