Using Windows Remote Desktop Connection
Windows Remote Desktop Connection is used for a number of administr at ive tasks:
Upgrading the Content Server
Using the TCS wizard to st ore recordings extern ally
Backing up and restor i n g
Applying security updates
Importing & exporti n g conferences

Using Remote Desktop

1. On your computer, go to S tart > All programs > Accesso r ies > Communications > Rem ote
desktop connection. (On some computers th is may be Start > All progr ams > Accessories >
Remote desktop connection.)
2. Type in the IP address or DNS name of the Content Serve r .
3. If you are upgrading, ap plying security updat es or manually copying a co nference import file t o
the Content Server, you need to share your disk drives:
a. In the connect dialog cl ick Options.
b. Select the LocalResources tab and select Disk Drives from Local d evices and resources
(you may need to click M ore to see this opt i on).
4. Click Connect.
5. Log in with an administ rator account username an d password. This can b e the local
administrator accou nt, or if the Conten t Server is on a domain, a dom ain administrator accou nt.

Using Remote Desktop via the Content Server web interface

WARNING: Do not use this method for installing softwar e upgrades to the Cont ent Server or applying
Windows security up dates.
1. Open the web interface for W indows Server admin i stration in a new window by g oi ng to
Management settin g s > Windows server. You n eed to use Internet Explorer (I E) to use this
menu item. (This pag e can also be accessed by typ ing https://<Cont entServerIPAddress> :8098
in the web browser URL field.)
2. Go to Maintenance and select Remote Desktop.
Note: Some IE security set tings may prevent the n ecessary ActiveX cont r ol s from running so that you
cannot access the web i n terface for Windows S erver administrati on or some of its tools. To overco me
this issue, add the UR L of the Content Server to t he trusted sites in you r browser. (To do this, i n your
browser go to Tools > Internet Options. Select t h e Securi ty tab and click Trusted sites. Click
Sites, enter the Cont ent Server's URL and click Add. Click Close and OK.)
