Testing Your Network
The Net Tools tab of the System Info dialog enables you to perform various operations to test your network and discover IP addresses or hostnames.
| The basic procedure is to select the tool you want to use, specify any |
| required settings, specify the host (hostname or IP address) to which |
| it is to apply, then click the Start Process button. The result of the |
| test will be logged and displayed in the central window. You can |
| stop the process at any time by clicking the Stop Process button |
| (which replaces the Start Process button). The contents of the log |
| can be cleared by clicking the Clear Log button. Note that the options |
| available in the dialog depend on the tool selected. |
The Ping Tool | The Ping tool will cause an icmp request to be sent to the machine |
| specified by Target Host. Checking the Display address numerically |
| option will cause the actual IP address to be displayed when you |
| enter a hostname in the Target Host field. |
