4Align the pin-1 corners of the processor and socket.

CAUTION: To avoid damage, align the processor properly with the socket, and do not use excessive force when you install the processor.

5Gently seat the processor in the socket, ensuring it is positioned correctly.

6Close the processor cover, ensuring the tab on the processor cover is positioned underneath the center cover latch on the socket.

7Pivot the socket release lever back towards the socket and snap it into place to secure the processor.

8Clean the thermal grease from the bottom of the heat sink.

CAUTION: Always apply new thermal grease. New thermal grease is critical for ensuring adequate thermal bonding, which is a requirement for optimal processor operation.

9Apply new thermal solution to the top of the processor.

10Replace the processor fan and heat sink assembly (see "Replacing the Processor Heat-Sink Assembly" on page 87).

CAUTION: Ensure that the processor fan and heat sink assembly is correctly seated and secure.

11Follow the procedure in "After Working on Your Computer" on page 17.

12Verify if your computer works correctly by running the Dell™ Diagnostics (see "Dell Diagnostics" on page 136).
