background music
A feature that plays music from the speaker of your telephone. Background Music is
available when you atta ch a music source to the syste m and enable the fea ture under
Feature settings in System programming.
base station
This is the radio/telephony unit that allows communication between wireless handsets,
such as Companion or DECT, to the Business Communications Manager system.
basic rate interfa ce (BRI)
An ISDN interface that uses two B-ch annels and a D-channe l (2B+D). ETSI BRI is the

baud rate
A unit of measurement of data trans mission speed . Baud rate is approximate ly equivalen t
to Bits Per Second (BPS). Typical baud rates are 300, 1200, 2400, 4800, and 9600.
BIOS (basic input output system )
A program contained in Read Only Memory (ROM) that acts as the interface bet ween
software progra ms and the computer hardwar e.
bit
A bit is the smallest unit of infor mation identifie d by the computer. A bit has one of two
values, 0 or 1, to indicate off or on.
Bus
A collection of communica tion lines that c arry electr onic signals between components in
the system.
Ca ll F o rwa rd
A feature that forwards a ll the calls arriving at a telephone to another telephone in the
system. To have calls forwarded outside the system, use Line Redirection.
Call Forward No Answer
A feature that f orwards all c alls arriv ing a t a telephon e to another se lect ed telephon e in the
system. The system transfers the calls after a specific number of rings. Assign Call
Forward No Answer under Capabilities in System DNs programming.
Call Forward On Busy
A feature t hat forwards all cal ls at a telephone t o a nother select ed tele phone if the origina l
telephone is busy. Assign this feat ure under Capabilities in System DNs programming.
Call Forward Override
An automatic system feature that allows the user to call another user and ask that user to
stop forwarding calls to their set.
