4. SIGNALS AND WIRING
4.11 Servo motor with an electromagnetic brake
4.11.1 Safety precautions
CAUTION
Configure the electromagnetic brake operatio n circuit so that it is activated not only
by the servo amplifier signals but also by an external forced stop signal.
Contacts must be open when
servo-off, when an trouble (ALM)
and when an electromagnetic brake
interlock (MBR).
Circuit must be
opened during
forced stop (EMG).
Electromagnetic brake
SON RA EMG
24VDC
The electromagnetic brake is provided for hol ding purpose and must not be used
for ordinary braking.
Before performing the operation, be sure to c onfirm that the electromagnetic brake
operates properly.
POINT
Refer to the Servo Motor Instruction Manual (Vol.2) for specifications s uch as
the power supply capacity and operation delay time of the electromagnet ic
brake.
Note the following when the servo motor equipped with an electromagnetic brake is used.
1) Do not share the 24VDC interface power supp ly between the interface and electromagnetic br ake.
Always use the power supply designed exclusively for the electromagn etic brake.
2) The brake will operate when the power (24VDC) s witches off.
3) Switch off the servo-on (RYn0) after the serv o motor has stopped.
Using parameter No.PC16 (electromagnetic brake s equence output), set a time delay (Tb) at servo-off from
electromagnetic brake operation to base circ uit shut-off as in the timing chart shown in section 4.11.2 in this
section.
