I/O Device Configuration Submenu (Figure 7.6)

Serial Port: This item allows you to enable or disable the serial port. When enabled, this port should be set to “Auto” (which will automatically set the address on system start-up). Be aware of conflicts that might arise if you add devices that require a COM port (such as a modem). If conflicts arise, you can disable the serial port (and enable it again when you need to use it) by setting it to “Disabled.” If the OS has control of the Serial port, you will see “OS Controlled” displayed for this item.
