Scanner does not respond

If an error message is displayed, see “Error messages” on page 121.

If the Power button light is not on, see “Power button is not lit” on page 102.

Make sure the printer is set as the default printer and is not on hold or paused.

1Click:

In Windows XP Pro: Start ΠSettings ΠPrinters and Faxes.

In Windows XP Home: Start ΠControl Panel ΠPrinters and Faxes.

In Windows 2000: Start ΠSettings ΠPrinters.

In Windows 98/Me: Start ΠSettings ΠPrinters.

2Double-click the name of your printer.

3Click Printer.

Make sure no check mark appears next to Pause Printing.

Make sure a check mark does appear next to Set As Default.

If none of the previous options fixes the problem, uninstall the printer software, and reinstall it. For more information, see “Removing and reinstalling the software” on page 125.

Scanning takes too long or freezes the computer

Close all programs not being used.

To change the scanning resolution to a lower value:

1Click Start ΠPrograms or All Programs ΠLexmark 8300 Series.

2Select All-In-One Center.

3From the Scan area, click See More Scan Settings.

4Click Display Advanced Scan Settings.

5From the Select Scan Resolution menu, select a lower number.
