Re-Creating a Hot Spare (RAID 5 With Hot Spares)

When an issue arises with a disk in a RAID 5 configuration and you are using hot spares, the disk in question moves to the FREE DRIVE POOL section, and the system automatically begins a rebuild process by using the disk initially designated as a hot spare.

The questionable disk remains in the FREE DRIVE POOL section and is assigned a Hot Spare button. To determine if the questionable disk needs to be replaced, you can use it to re-create a hot spare. If process fails, you must replace the disk.

A rebuild begins with the hot spare replacing the questionable disk.

This disk displays a

Hot Spare button.
