Chapter 5 HPSS Infrastructure

Configuration

5.1 Overview

Thischapter provides instructions and supporting information for the infrastructure configuration
of HPSS.
Beforeconfiguring the HPSS infrastructure, we recommend that the administrator be familiar with
UNIXcommands and configuration, be familiar with a UNIX text editor, and have some experience
with the C language, shell scripts, DCE, and Encina.
The procedures described in this chapter assume that DCE, Encina, Sammi, Java, and HPSS have
been successfully installed. In addition, a DCE/DFS cell has been fully configured.
5.1.1 Infrastructure Road Map
Thesteps required to configure the HPSS infrastructure are listed below. Each step is discussed in
more detail in the section referenced.
1. Verify the prerequisite software (Section 5.2 below).
2. Definethe HPSS environment variables (Section 5.3: Define the HPSS Environment Variables
on page 216).
3. Configurethe HPSS infrastructure on a node (Section 5.4: Configure the HPSS Infrastructure
on a Node on page 240).

5.2 Verify the Prerequisite Software

Verify that the appropriate versions of the following prerequisites have been installed and
configured in preparation for the HPSS infrastructure configuration (For versions, see Section 2.3:
Prerequisite Software Considerations on page 46):
