Chapter 5 HPSS Infrastructure

Conﬁguration

5.1 Overview

Thischapter provides instructions and supporting information for the infrastructure conﬁguration

of HPSS.

Beforeconﬁguring the HPSS infrastructure, we recommend that the administrator be familiar with

UNIXcommands and conﬁguration, be familiar with a UNIX text editor, and have some experience

with the C language, shell scripts, DCE, and Encina.

The procedures described in this chapter assume that DCE, Encina, Sammi, Java, and HPSS have

been successfully installed. In addition, a DCE/DFS cell has been fully conﬁgured.

5.1.1 Infrastructure Road Map

Thesteps required to conﬁgure the HPSS infrastructure are listed below. Each step is discussed in

more detail in the section referenced.

1. Verify the prerequisite software (Section 5.2 below).

2. Deﬁnethe HPSS environment variables (Section 5.3: Deﬁne the HPSS Environment Variables
