6.8.5 Log Daemon Speciﬁc Conﬁguration

The Log Daemon speciﬁc conﬁguration entry can be created using the Logging Daemon

Conﬁguration window. After the conﬁguration entry is created, it can be viewed, updated, or

deleted through the same window.

Fromthe HPSS Health and Status window (shown in Figure 6-1), click on the Admin menu, select

theConﬁgure HPSS option and click on theServers option. The HPSS Servers window will be

displayed as shown in Figure 6-5.

Toadd a new speciﬁc conﬁguration, select the Log Daemon entry and click on the Type-speciﬁc...

buttonfrom the Conﬁguration button group on the HPSS Servers window. The Logging Daemon

Conﬁgurationwindow will be displayed as shown in Figure 6-24 with default values. If the default

datais not desired, change the ﬁelds with the desired values. Click on the Add button to create the

conﬁguration entry.

Toupdate an existing conﬁguration, select the Log Daemon entry on the HPSS Servers window and

click on theType-speciﬁc... button from the Conﬁguration button group. The Logging Daemon

Conﬁguration window will be displayed with the conﬁgured data. After modifying the

conﬁguration, click on theUpdate button to write the changes to the appropriate SFS ﬁle.

Log Messages To: Amask of options to apply

to local logging. A combination of the following

values:

Log Daemon—Send log messages

to the central log.

Local LogFile—format and log

messagesfrom servers on the same

node as the Log Client to a local

ﬁle.

It is an error if both Local LogFile

and Standard Output are both

speciﬁed.

Syslog—format and log messages

locally to syslog.

Stdout—Sendmessages to standard

output.

Log Daemon,

Local Log

File

Advice:If neither Local LogFile nor Syslog is speciﬁed, no local logging will occur.

If Log Daemon is not speciﬁed, messages from HPSS processes executing on the

samenode as this Log Client will not be written to the central log. The Syslog option

shouldbe used with care. The syslog ﬁle will grow without bound until it is deleted/

truncated, or until the ﬁle system runs out of space.
