Coupling

Replace the oil seals with new ones.

Apply thin coat grease to the oil seal lips [A].

Pack grease [B] between the oil seal lip and housing of the oil seal (flywheel side oil seal [C]).

Press in the oil seals until they are bottomed.

Install the coupling oil seal [D] so that the manufacturer’s marks [E] face coupling side.

Install the flywheel side oil seal so that the dust seal [F] side face out.

Oil Seal Inspection

Inspect the oil seal.

Replace it if the lips are misshapen, discolored (indicating that the rubber has deteriorated), hardened or otherwise damaged.

Magneto Cover Bearing Replacement

CAUTION

Do not remove the ball bearing unless it is neces- sary. Removal may damage it.

Remove:Magneto Cover (see Coupling/Output Shaft Removal)

Using the oil seal and bearing remover [A], remove the ball bearing from the magneto cover [B].

When removing the ball bearing, hold the magneto cover.

Special Tool - Oil Seal and Bearing Remover: 57001-1058

Using a press and the bearing driver set [A], install the new bearing until it stops at the bottom of its housing.

Ball Bearing Lubrication

NOTE

Since the bearings are packed with grease and sealed on both sides, lubrication is not required.

Ball Bearing Inspection

NOTE

It is not necessary to remove the bearings for inspec- tion. If the bearing is removed, it will need to be re- placed with a new one.

Spin [A] it by hand to check its condition.

If it is noisy, does not spin smoothly, or has any rough spots, it must be replaced.

Examine the bearing seal [B] for tears or leakage. If the seal is torn or is leaking, replace the bearing.
